Scenic Virginia believes that gorgeous photos are a great way to showcase our Commonwealth’s extraordinary scenic beauty. These images demonstrate the majesty of our historic vistas, the splendor of our natural landscapes, and the character of our communities. Our Virginia Vistas Photo Contest is open to any photographer who believes in our mission of preserving, protecting, and enhancing Virginia’s scenic beauty.
Our 2021 Virginia Vista Photo Contest Categories — and each’s corresponding Category Code for naming the file — are as follows:
- Cities & Towns: CI
- Coastal & Chesapeake Bay: CO
- Farms & Open Spaces: FO
- Highways & Byways: HB
- Mountains & Valleys: MV
- Rivers & Waterways: RW
- Scenic Trees: TR
- Vistas Featuring Wildlife: WI
Our Photo Contest judges will select a Best in Show and eight Category Winners. Scenic Virginia supporters will choose the Fan Favorite Category Winner.

Rules
Please name your photo file (the file you upload from your computer to the submission page) in this manner: Category Code – Photo Title – Your Last Name. Examples of correct photo file names are:
- MV – Foggy Morning on Skyline Drive – Smith
- WI – Hungry Heron – Jones
Our rules REQUIRE that you rename your photo file in this manner before uploading.
Please submit photographs in .jpg format (5MB limit per image). (We will request a higher resolution image if your photo is selected as a Winner or Honorable Mention.)
License to Images
In submitting a photo to our contest, you grant Scenic Virginia a non-exclusive license for use of your image. Possible uses include the Photo Gallery on our website, posts on our social media platforms, inclusion in print and marketing materials, and in retail merchandise such as note cards. Credit to the photographer will be included with each image. We reserve the right to reject images for copyright or trademark infringement, inappropriate content, or infringement on the rights of a third party.
